Synaptics and Alps Alpine have announced a collaboration to accelerate the next-generation wireless solutions powered by Bluetooth 6.0. This partnership aims to deliver connectivity experiences that go beyond “just connecting” — adding the ability to measure distance and location with reliable accuracy.
Synaptics’ Veros™ portfolio of Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth, GPS, and GNSS solutions is designed for a wide range of IoT applications. Synaptics’ wireless solutions combined with its AI-Native Astra™ line of Edge AI processors are bringing new levels of performance, security, and energy efficiency to IoT devices.
Alps Alpine, a pioneer in Bluetooth innovation, recently introduced a Bluetooth 6.0 evaluation kit that achieves up to 70 meters of range with ±30 cm accuracy enabled by Synaptics’ technology. Building on its track record in digital keys and smart access systems, Alps Alpine continues to be among the industry leaders in compact, reliable modules designed for automotive and IoT applications.
At the heart of Bluetooth 6.0 is Channel Sounding, a breakthrough capability that enables phase-based ranging (PBR) and round-trip time (RTT) distance measurement. Together, Synaptics and Alps Alpine are set to harness this capability for applications such as:
- Smart access and digital keys with enhanced security
- Indoor navigation for smart homes, robots, and appliances
- Healthcare and sports wearables that measure distance and enable authentication
- Development of next-generation IoT solutions leveraging Android™ smartphones
“Our collaboration with Synaptics is an important step toward developing technologies for the next wave of IoT devices,” said Mr. Masaaki Tanaka, VP of Sensor&Communication Business, New Business, Alps Alpine.
