I installed another pointing device driver and I no longer have advanced features.

The Synaptics driver recognizes the external pointing device as a standard mouse. The advanced features are implemented in the Synaptics driver. If you would like to use theTouchPad's advanced features, you must uninstall the external PS/2 device driver and then install the latest TouchPad driver.

My cursor is behaving erraticly.

There are two possible solutions to this problem:

If your TouchPad is dirty, use a small amount of ammonia-based window cleaner on a clean cloth and gently wipe the surface of the TouchPad to remove any dirt or grime. Having a clean TouchPad surface usually eliminates erratic pointer movement.

The TouchPad driver may need to be updated. Download the appropriate Synaptics driver from the manufacturer's support site. Uninstall the driver that is not working and then install the downloaded driver.

After I have rebooted my system, the settings for Double-Click Speed and Pointer Speed revert to their default settings.

The device driver for a different pointing device is interfering with these settings. If you have recently installed a driver for a pointing device, you need to uninstall that driver (or drivers) to regain control of the Double-Click Speed and Pointer Speed settings.

After upgrading to Windows XP, the Synaptics TouchPad Control Panel is no longer accessible.

The Synaptics driver for Win 9x/ME is not compatible with Windows XP. Download the appropriate Synaptics driver from the manufacturer's support site. Uninstall the driver that is not working and then install the downloaded driver.

An error message displays that refers to the SYNTP.SYS driver file.

If you receive a Microsoft Online Crash Analysis (OCA) message referring to the SYNTP.SYS driver file, installing a more recent version of the Synaptics driver is recommended (version 7.5.12 or higher). Download the appropriate driver from the manufacturer's support site. Uninstall the driver that is not working and then install the downloaded driver.

Miscellaneous

I'd like to use my TouchPad with a different operating system (DOS, UNIX, OS/2, Linux). You can use the TouchPad as a standard pointing device with these systems by using a standard mouse driver. Synaptics does not provide TouchPad drivers for these systems, so you won't be able to take full advantage of all of TouchPad's enhanced features with these systems. However, independent software developers have created Linux drivers that are available at http://compass.com/synaptics/ or http://www.pdos.lcs.mit.edu/~cananian/Synaptics/.
