ClickPad

The Preferred Solution

The Synaptics ClickPad™ is a recent, innovative addition to the Synaptics TouchPad™ product line. A ClickPad can be used for scrolling, pointing, navigation, and selection, just like a TouchPad—but a ClickPad eliminates the need for physical buttons. The ClickPad’s button-less design is sleek and intuitive.

Pressing down on the ClickPad activates its internal tact switch to perform a left- or right-button click. A ClickPad is easy to use because it has a similar “feel” to pressing a physical button. This makes it an excellent alternative to conventional input and navigation devices. The ClickPad’s elegant, optimized design makes it a unique, recognizable solution.

Bigger is better

A ClickPad can be up to 30% larger than a traditional TouchPad because it eliminates the need for physical buttons. There is more space for the touch sensor. A larger sensor makes it easier for the user to perform gestures—enhancing user experience and increasing customer satisfaction.

User friendly

The Synaptics Gesture Suite™ delivers new gestures and usage models for the ClickPad that are proven to enhance usability and productivity at work and play. You can “flick” to scroll through photos, music libraries, and file directories. You can “pinch” to zoom-in on or zoom-out of maps, images, and PDF files. You can “twist” to rotate objects and images. You can “tap” to select words or phrases. The ClickPad is an excellent, ergonomic solution because using gestures helps to reduce the likelihood of repetitive strain injuries.

Less is more

The ClickPad’s button-less design is intuitive and user-friendly—even for people who are accustomed to using physical buttons. With a ClickPad, you can perform left- or right-button clicks without taking your fingers away from the touch surface.

The Synaptics Gesture Suite delivers two types of button emulation options.

  • Diagram of usage of ClickButtonsClickButtons deliver an advanced gesture experience. This zone less option enables the user to left- or right-click anywhere on the ClickPad. Pressing one finger down performs a left click. Pressing two fingers down performs a right click. The user doesn’t need to look away from the computer screen to find the ClickZone, or try to locate it by feel.
  • Diagram of ClickZonesClickZones emulate the physical buttons of a TouchPad or mouse. Pressing down on the lower left zone performs the same function as clicking a left button. Pressing down on the lower right zone performs the same function as clicking a right button.

Uniquely pleasing

When product design matters, the ClickPad’s sleek, iconic style makes it a recognizable solution. The ClickPad’s button-less design distinguishes it from typical pointing devices. Synaptics ClickPads can be designed to fit everything from the smallest netbook to the largest notebook. OEMs can choose the appropriate ClickPad “series” that best fits their design.

A wide range of attractive materials and finishes are available to the OEM including: glass, plastic, and Mylar®. The ClickPad surface can even be customized—delivering excellent brand-enhancement and product differentiation opportunities. A company name, logo, or other graphic can be added through custom printing or painting, depending on the surface material selected. Textures or embossing can be used to highlight ClickPad features to enhance usability, such as a texture change to highlight ClickZones.

Synaptics ClickPads build on Synaptics’ proven capacitive touch sensing technology—used in over 650 million devices. The ClickPad’s advanced functionality and gesture support make it a preferred solution for a wide variety of products.
