Synaptics TouchPad™ Family
Redefining the Notebook Interface
Synaptics has been a leading innovator in notebook interfaces, from developing the original TouchPad in 1995 to eliminating buttons in the ClickPad™. Today we continue to introduce new innovations, such as the introduction of pressure as input in our new ForcePad™ technology, and touch gestures designed for the stringent requirements of Windows 8. Synaptics defines the standard for notebook and Ultrabook interfaces.
Our TouchPad is a small, touch-sensitive pad that senses the position and movement of one or more fingers on its surface through the measurement of capacitance. Replacing and exceeding the functionality of a mouse, our TouchPad provides an accurate, comfortable, and reliable method for screen navigation and gestures to provide a platform for interactive human input in both the consumer and corporate PC markets. Our TouchPad solutions enable OEMs to deliver stylish, user-friendly, and intuitive human interface solutions. Our TouchPad solutions offer various advanced features, including:
- Gesture-based device interaction
- One-finger, two-finger, and ChiralMotion™ scrolling options
- Individual user preference settings
- Tap and drag operation
Our ClickPad introduces click functionality that eliminates the need for physical buttons. The button-free design allows for unique, intuitive industrial design and makes it an excellent alternative to conventional input and navigation devices. Our ClickPad is activated by pressing down on the internal tact switch to perform a left- or right-button click, and provides tactile feedback similar to pressing a physical button. ClickPad 3.1 features ClickEQ™, a mechanical solution that provides uniform click depth to maximize the surface area available for gestures and improve click performance over hinged designs. It gives a consistent click depth across the ClickPad surface, ensuring the user can easily click wherever they need to. Synaptics ClickPad also features ClickSmart™ technology, which lets users easily transition from a buttoned TouchPad to a ClickPad.
By introducing pressure as input, Synpatics ForcePad revolutionizes the human-computer interface on notebook PCs. New capabilities such as gesture continuation functions enrich today’s gestures, and work out of the box through the established operating system controls. ForcePad provides consistency in performance across OEM models through its inherent design and self-calibration. Reengineered to deliver a uniform “click-anywhere” feel—even at the larger Microsoft recommended touchpad sizes—results in a TouchPad that’s optimized for the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system, ensuring a fast and fluid user experience.(Skip to top)
