How does a RoundPad work?

The RoundPad incorporates a ring around its perimeter for dedicated scrolling. The inner area is primarily for pointing.
Users start the scrolling motion by moving their finger along the ring in a continuous circle. The pointing and scrolling areas are separated by an optional printed border or embossed ridge, which provides tactile and visual guidance, making it easier for users to feel and see the scrolling zone. Once scrolling is initiated, a user can continue the circular motion in the inner pointing region. This enables faster, more efficient, and more intuitive scrolling through multiple screens, long files and web pages.
Users can point on the RoundPad by simply beginning in the inner circle of the RoundPad. Once pointing is initiated, the user can cross over into the scrolling zone without interrupting the pointing motion. This maximizes the space used for pointing.

What are the advanced driver features in a Synaptics RoundPad?

The Synaptics driver makes the RoundPad highly configurable to meet the individual needs of both novice and advanced users. There are options in the driver to activate both vertical and horizontal scrolling. Vertical scrolling is the default option out-of-the-box. Additionally, advanced users can enable horizontal scrolling option in the driver.
For additional feedback, users can activate the audio feedback feature. This audio feedback is similar to the sound produced by the wheel of a standard mouse, and gives the user a audio indicator while scrolling.
Basic vertical scrolling functionality is built into the RoundPad firmware, so many of the benefits of RoundPad are available to users even if the device driver is not installed.
