What is a Dual Pointing device?

Dual Pointing solutions combine both a touch pad and a pointing stick in a single notebook computer. The result is a complete solution that provides the modularity and design flexibility to PC OEMs.

What type of Dual Pointing solutions does Synaptics offer?

Synaptics offers three different dual pointing solutions, each with their own unique benefits:

• The resistive solution combines a resistive pointing stick with a Synaptics TouchPad solution. Because the resistive pointing stick has a small footprint, this solution is ideal for notebook computers with space constraints.
• The capacitive solution combines Synaptics' capacitive TouchStyk module with a Synaptics TouchPad. Because this module is entirely capacitive, it is less susceptible to noise, resulting in a high performance solution.
• The integrated dual pointing module (IDPM) combines both a TouchStyk and TouchPad solution onto a single module, where the pointing stick is located beneath the space bar in a notebook computer. This unique implementation offers the most protection against noise, and an interesting form factor that appeals to new and younger notebook users.
